Whether you want an active, outdoor holiday or wish to take things at a more leisurely pace, perhaps just enjoying the beautiful scenery and strolling along white sandy beaches, Ardnamurchan will not disappoint.

Discover the ruin of Mingary Castle, once the stronghold of the MacIan Clan, or the extinct volcano crater at Achanaha; climb Ben Hiant, the highest point on the peninsula (528m), or take to the water in search of dolphins and whales.

THE GLENFINNAN MONUMENT

The Glenfinnan Monument was erected in 1815 by MacDonald of Glenalladale and stands 65ft in height. It commemorates the rasing of Bonnie Prince Charlie's standard in 1745 when he landed a boat to meet the MacDonalds and await his supporters. The station has a Railway Museum and there is a visitor centre, cafe and gift shop.

CASTLE TIORAM

The ruined Castle Tioram sits on a rocky tidal island, Eilean Tioram (The Dry Island) and although it is closed to visitors it is possible to visit at low tide and to look at the castle exterior. Burnt down in 1715 by the Clanranald Clan Chief to prevent it falling into enemy hands.
